What is a yantra

Ce este yantra

The Yantra is a geometrical drawing, a sacred diagram, bi or tri-dimensional, wich encompasses the energetic signature of a deity. It can be a deity that governs a planet, a certain hypostasis of The Divinity, or The Supreme Deity.

There is a variety of yantras known from the ancient period of India and traditionally, they are being used in Oriental mystic, Hindu tantra, as a supreme instrument for meditation.

Every drawing contains elements like the dot, the circle, the triangle, the square, the crescent moon, the lotus, and combinations of these elements.

Every basic element has a certain initiatory symbolism and they represent among other things, the five elements: the dot represents ether, the circle represents air, the triangle represents fire, the crescent moon represents water and the square represents earth.

The dynamic generated by these geometrical aggregates has miraculous, extraordinary properties, that go beyond our imagination and are being used in a initiatory way when we work on the deepest aspects of our being, balancing the mind trough concentration and meditation.

Being "vehicles" trough which the deity manifests physically, even the simple presence of these elements restores the field of energy surrounding them following the divine archetype, bringing force, spiritual evolution, spiritual healing and protection.

Symbols found in a yantra:

Simboluri ce alcatuiesc o yantra:

The Dot » In Tantra, superior mystic, the dot is literaly the essence of The Absolute and any yantra is structured around a central nucleus. The yantra goes from one point and it extends just like a seed from which the whole tree grows, then it returns towards the dot again, absorbing itself into it and concentrating its whole energy into that point. Physicists have discovered the same archetype underlying the creation of the universe: the well known Big-Bang. So the dot represents the object of profound contemplation and meditation. This passive element concentrates the mental energy and renews the power of our mind.

The Triangle » It represents the feminine or masculine energy, depending on the direction the tip of the triangle is pointed to. The triangle pointing downwards represents the feminine or The Goddess (The Great Goddess called Shakti, meaning "divine power" or any other goddess from the tantric Hindu pantheon), and the triangle pointing upwards represents the masculine principle or The God (The Great God called Shiva, meaning "The Good One", or any other god from the tantric Hindu pantheon). One of the functions of a yantra is to structure, to organize the space, and the triangle does this with a minimum amount of lines. The triangle also evokes the triad. An isosceles triangle represents balance and harmony. Also through its two major forms, symbolizing water when faced down and fire when faced up, it represents purity, purification. Two triangles touching at the tip represents "damaru", a traditional drum with animal skin at both ends, which symbolizes the primordial sound that underlies the entire universe.

The Square » The square represents the earth, a stable element par excellence, the plane of the manifested, the forces of densification. It has four cardinal points embracing the four dimensions of space and time. The square is a sacred enclosure of the initiatory space in which you enter through four gates in the shape of letter T.

The Circle » The circle or wheel is the main symbol of the ritual expressing cyclic evolution of manifestation. It is The Cosmic Force par excellence. A yantra framed in a circle is called a mandala.

The Lotus » The lotus is the tantric flower par excellence. The flower represents the creativity of The Goddess, the source of all forms and the purity of creative act. The number of petals can vary by its hypostasis and by how it acts upon the world.

Punctul » In Tantra, mistica superioara, punctul este literar esenta Absolutului si orice yantra este structurata in jurul unui nucleu central. Asadar punctul reprezinta obiectul unei profunde reflectii si meditatii.

Are patru puncte cardinale imbratisand cele patru dimensiuni ale spatiului si timpului.
